Never Give Up! My STORY

“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.” ―Thomas Edison

Growing up, I have gone through thorns and they have in turn made me strong.

The Thomas Edison story is very familiar to us and I have learnt a lot from it and it has helped me sit back to think about a lot of things at every point I feel like giving up.

Today, I won't take your time talking about so many things, but I want to rekindle your hope and make you understand that God is still in the business of making men and creating great destinies.

I have always had the burden of telling this particular story for a while now, but I always wanted to keep it to myself, but this morning, after reading a message from a friend, I decided to share this part of my life story, but I won't go into every detail of it.

Many years ago, after I left secondary school, even when I was in secondary school, I took up some jobs in order to have a living and prepare for my future education endeavours.

I can still remember walking into the Nigerian Newspaper Cooperation along Eka Street to take up a part-time job as a newspaper paper vendor, after some time of hawking sachet water at the then Urua Ewet, along now Samuel Bill Street former Uruan Street.

Life became tough and it looked like there was no hope and at every point, I felt like giving up, the inner man tells me, move just one more step, and I have been moving like that until today and God has never failed me yet.

After years of being a newspaper vendor, I decided to have a change of job and life became very interesting, and this were what I want to tell you are.

I loved washing and taking up chores, so I thought I could earn a living, helping people do their laundry, so I started applying to laundry shops.

My applications were at almost all the laundry and dry cleaning shops around me, and after weeks and possibly months of waiting, though I can't really remember, I decided to walk into one of the shops that were very close to me and ask for a job and something remarkable happened.

On getting into the shop, the young man was ironing people's clothes. I went into the shop, greeted him and he answered me very well and I hope he was thinking that I am one of his numerous would-be customers and he accorded me the attention I needed and the very moment I told him I needed a job to work for him in his job as a laundry person, everything changed.

This day was one of the very odd days in my life. After the encounter with him, I looked at myself and it looked as if it was over, I walked out of his shop and went straight to my house and fortunately for me, there was no one in the house, so I had my private time.

One of the things that got me really pissed was the set of questions the guy asked me, he made a fool of me and that made me feel inferior, but I guarded that jealousy, that he didn't notice that part. I made up my mind that I was going to succeed against all odds and legitimately.

TODAY!

The bible says that things will happen, but they will be for the name of the father to be glorified.

Today the story is very different. I won't take your time any longer, but I want to know that our God is GREAT. That same laundry shop is where I do my laundry and I did that intentionally, that same guy, not his boys do wash my clothes and I pay him, and that I have done consistently for years now. One thing I don't know is if he still remembers me, but if he doesn't, I won't also tell him now for a reason.

You see, God is still in the business of making men and yours won't be an exception. Just keep trusting in him and he will make a way for you, he will be your guide, and above all, train yourself to be able to hear him, every time he speaks to you.

...... To be continued.
